The Sunshine Coast Region is a local government area in Queensland, Australia. This area includes the city of Caloundra, the Shires of Maroochy and Noosa, and the coastal area. It has a total area of 3,126 square kilometres and an estimated population of 282,822 as of 2021. The Sunshine Coast Region’s budget is A$782 million, with $243 million dedicated to Capital Works.

The Pumicestone Passage is the result of a floodplain that once covered Elimbah Creek. From 1842 to the 1950s, Bribie Island was about 300 metres wide. The region’s coastal areas have undergone significant changes over the years. The resulting flooding formed Pumicestone Passage and a flood plain on Bribie Island. The Pumicestone Passage has impacted the shoreline of the Sunshine Coast, causing a reversal in coastal erosion.
