MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging uses powerful magnets and radio waves to produce detailed images of organs, tissues, and structures inside of the body – which can be invaluable when diagnosing and treating diseases, such as tumors.

An MRI machine is a short, tube-shaped scanner with open ends. When entering, you’ll lie on a motorised bed that moves into the scanner either head first or feet first depending on which part of your body needs scanning. Before beginning the exam, a radiographer will ask that all jewelry, eyeglasses, removable dental work, piercings, medication patches with metal in them belt buckles buckles or any other objects which might react with its strong magnetic field be removed before entering for your scan – along with giving earplugs or muffs which might produce tapping sounds caused by its magnetic energy creating images; should this make you uncomfortable just speak up so they can help.

CT

A CT scan uses a narrow beam of energy that circulates around the area being scanned, before stacking individual images like slices in bread to produce two-dimensional (2D) cross-sectional pictures of organs or bones. A radiographer may ask you to hold your breath during this procedure, and will hear click sounds as the images are acquired; when complete, a medically qualified radiographer will assess and report back your results to your referring doctor.
